At 11:01, while at Drill, Jeff sent me a text to go out on a date night some where fancy so he could “dress up fly” 🤣 After I stopped laughing • 7 minutes later • I agreed. I was thinking - we don’t really have a reason to celebrate, why does he want to go out. 🤷🏼♀️
I was almost done cleaning the kitchen around 4:30 when I started getting hungry. If you know me and how grumpy I get when I don’t eat…😳 Jeff lovingly texts me to get a snack. I thought it was incredibly sweet.
At 5:00 Jeff gets home from drill just I was wrapping up cleaning the kitchen. He jumps in the shower so I start getting ready. While in the shower, he asked me to find Ava’s harness. The only one we could find was one Ava doesn’t really like.
Around 5:30, he asks me if I could help take the dogs out. Since I was in the middle of putting on my makeup, he said to finish getting ready. Final step, I wanted to put on my bicycle necklace but the chain was tangled in the tire. Jeff gets back from taking the dog out, and was like “Babe look at Ava in her harness she’s so cute!”
I step out of the bathroom half looking at the dog and half trying to fix this dang necklace. Ava’s just sitting on her bed in the kitchen cause she’s in her harness.
Jeff: “Ava go see momma”.
Ava: Sits there.
Jeff: “see momma isn’t she so cute...Ava go see momma”
Nicki: ...what’s up with this dog and the harness, finally got this chain fixed!
Ava: runs to Nicki
Nicki: pets Ava
Jeff: ....why isn’t she seeing this ring...walks over to the dog laughs *mumbles something*
Nicki: now to put this necklace on
Jeff: takes the necklace puts it on the table, grabs my forearms - repositioning me so I don’t fall down the stairs, takes a deep breath and says...”Nicki, come here....I’ve been waiting for a long time for the perfect moment, but realized any moment is perfect as long as I’m with you..”
His eyes fill with tears and I was a little confused but finally realized what was going on. He gets down on one knee and says:
“You are my teammate, but would you do me the honor of being my teammate for life?” At this point she tears up and can’t see anything but immediately says “Yes! Yes baby!” He puts the ring on my finger and immediately picked me up into his arms and gave me the sweetest kiss. 🥰
“Any moment is perfect as long as I’m with you. You are my teammate, but would you do me the honor of being my teammate for life?”
Fun facts:
Jeff planned to do this on our trip to South Dakota but it didn’t ship in time.
Jeff proposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lexi Wolf, Mary Mundschenk and Paul Dusablon knew and were patiently waiting.
Jeff got real particular about getting the mail for a few days. It was delivered while we were both working remotely due to COVID-19.
Nicki was completely surprised on the timing and had no idea - in fact on Tuesday (7/11) she had sent him a diamond she found but little did she know - the one she sent him on June 28th was already acquired.
